I’m a father, a software developer, a vegetarian, a liberal, a nerd and a motorcycle rider.
I grew up in and around New York City. I’ve lived in four of the five boroughs at least once. I most recently lived in Brooklyn before moving to North Carolina about five years ago. I lived in Texas twice.
I’m a father. I have a 13 year old son.
I’ve been vegetarian for over twenty years. I’ve tried to go vegan several times over the years, but it never stuck; I like dairy too much. I occasionally eat fish, usually sushi, so technically I’m pescatarian, but it’s such an unfamiliar word that I don’t use it to describe my self.
I’ve been a software developer for almost twenty years now. It’s something I love doing and I consider myself very lucky to be able to do what I love.
I love dogs and cats. I have a dog named Ziggy.
I have a motorcycle that I ride when the weather is nice. When I lived in New York, where I didn’t need a car, it was the only vehicle I owned. I didn’t buy a car for a year after I first moved to North Carolina. That first winter was brutal, even with the heated suit I bought. I’ve since gotten a car and only ride the motorcycle for fun now.
In my free time, I like walking and bike riding in the park and along the greenways. I like reading. I like science and historical fiction mostly. My favorite authors are Neal Stephenson, Neil Gaiman, Peter Watts and Umberto Eco.
My favorite screenwriter/director is Terry Gilliam (Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Zero Theorem, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Fisher King). I also really enjoy Wes Anderson’s work (Moonrise Kingdom, Rushmore) and the Coen brothers (Fargo, The Big Lebowski).
I don’t watch much TV. When I do watch, it is usually with my son, so most of my favorites are cartoons like Adventure Time and Gravity Falls. We also both love Doctor Who.
I like to write, but I don’t have the commitment that it takes. I’ve kept up a blog for months at a time but lose focus and it often gets stale.
